What he gets depends on where he goes. He could take 5.5 or 6 in Tampa because of no taxes compared to 6.5 or 7 somewhere with higher taxes. I would like him to resign in Tampa amd solidify their top 6 but I see him going home to buffalo if they pay him.

I think callahan is what everyone believed clarkson was last season.....a 20-25 goal guy, with grit, character, and a physical edge to his game. so it stands to reason that he should get a similar deal......7 years at 5.25.

that being said, i'm not naive enough to think he'll get under six, someone will pay him.

Good leader, good player but not worth anything more than $5M a year.....

At that price tag? No way in hell does Y jump for it.

If he takes a Fillupla-like deal (5m/yr, 5 years) then sure, why not? Add in the fact that in Florida he won't have to worry about State Tax, and that could be a factor.

That being said, if he wants to become a banker a la Khabibulin, then let 'em walk. Someone will overpay greatly for his services.

Id say Vanek to Minny just because they're in a win now mode and its where he wants to be while Buffalo won't be winning for a while which gives other teams an advantage om them in that aspect for Callahan

i say vanek to minn.

i can't see how montreal can afford to keep him. the cap is supposedly going up only to 69 mil, which leaves the habs 25 mil, and 10-11 roster spots that need filled. when you consider the players that need to be re-signed (subban, markov, eller, gionta, etc) this year, and the ones due for big raises the following year (gallagher, galchenyuk)....i'm not sure how they'll fit the, likely 8 or so mil, that vanek is gonna want on a max term deal.

I could see Cally as a "Lou Lam" type of player....and of course Lou will give him any salary he wants....just look at Clowe

Vanek the floater. What kind of player needs the coach to demote him to make him play harder in the playoffs ? That should tell every team enough about Vanek.Cale isn't worth the money he will want.Hell you can get Steve Ott cheaper and hes more durable till Grigs is ready to take the C.

I completely agree with this. He is definitely what the Leafs were hoping Clarkson would be, and I have a lot of confidence that he won't do what Clarkson did this year.

I don't want him. But if he signs for a reasonable amount and term then I wouldn't mind. If we sign him I think we shouldn't pursue Ott. We've got a team full of those types.

I think (hope) Callahan stays with Tampa and leaves us and the Isles alone. We need them high picks next year. Perfect world we'd get both Eichel and McDavid

Vanek will be in a Wild jersey probably within the first hour of free agency.

I wonder. Depends on how Leipold feels about acquiring more big contracts while not getting that far in the playoffs.

I'm a huge Callahan fan...but only care to see him on my favorite team for up to $4-$4.5M/yr. Otherwise I will happily root for him in another jersey.
